Lance Lynn tries to maintain at least a share of the major-league lead in wins when he leads the St. Louis Cardinals against the Houston Astros in the rubber game of their tree-game series on Thursday. Lynn has eight wins and with it, he enters the day tied with Philadelphia’s Cole Hamels and R.A. Dickey of the New York Mets, who both will take the mound on Thursday as well.

A bit low on the Astros, who have only won 3 of their 11 games, will try to contain Allen Craig. In eight career contests at Minute Maid Park, Craig is hitting .385 (10-for-26) with four home runs and 11 RBIs, numbers upon which he improved in Wednesday’s victory by going 2-for-4 with a blast and drove in a pair of runs.
The Cardinals have a score of 3-6 on their 10-game road trip and have lost nine of their last 13 contests in total.

Pitching Match Up: Cardinals RH Lance Lynn (8-2, 2.63 ERA) VS Astros LH J.A. Happ (4-5, 4.31 ERA)
Lancy Lynn only managed to last 4 2/3 innings in a loss at New York on Saturday as he threw 105 pitches while allowing just two earned runs. The 25-year old has surrendered three earned runs or less in 10 of his 11 starts this season. Lynn, is 5-1 in seven road outings this year and on the side note, he won his only career decision against the Astros.

Happ on the other hand has yielded only six earned runs over his last four starts but is just 2-2 during that stretch. HE has dropped each of his last two outings, including a setback against Cincinnati on Friday in which he yielded three runs over seven innings. Happ fell to 1-7 lifetime against St. Louis on May 6 when he allowed a season-high six runs over five frames.

Tips: • After Craig hit a one-out homer in the third inning, Houston pitchers retired the final 20 Cardinals in order.
• St. Louis RH Adam Wainwright improved to 11-1 overall against Houston and 5-0 at Minute Maid Park.
