Going for their fourth straight series win will be the Pittsburgh Pirates when they head out and face off with the Cincinnati Reds in the rubber game of their three-game set on Thursday. Pittsburgh took the opener of the series on Tuesday to climb within two games of first-place Cincinnati in the NL Central but failed in its comeback attempt Wednesday, dropping a 5-4 decision.

Joey Votto of Cincinnati managed to extend his hitting streak to 12 games with a single in the fourth inning. Votto is batting .537 (22-for-41) during his run. Leftie Aroldis Chapman, who tossed a scoreless ninth, has yet to allow an earned run in 24 games this season.

In Wednesday’s contest, both teams managed to homer, extending the streak of consecutive games at Great American Ball Park with at least one blast to 52. The last homerless game in Cincinnati occurred on July 29. Both teams have been playing well as the Pirates have won eight of their last 11 games while the Reds have captured 12 of 17.

Correia ended his personal five-game losing streak in his last outing, allowing two runs over 5 2/3 innings in a triumph at Milwaukee. It was the 31-year-old’s first victory since April 15 at San Francisco. Correia - who has yielded three runs or less in four of his last five starts - is 7-2 lifetime against Cincinnati, with one of his losses coming at home on May 4.

Leake is coming off his second straight win as he gave up just one run and four hits over seven innings at Houston on Friday. The 24-year-old has allowed one earned run in three of his last four starts and no more than three earned runs in six of seven outings. Leake fell to 1-3 lifetime against the Pirates with a loss on May 5 at Pittsburgh.
