It was the Atlanta’s skillful pitching that sparked the Braves in the first two games of this series between NL East contenders at Marlins Park. The Marlins on the other hand only managed to get seven hits and one run in 18 innings as the Braves have take the victory in the first two meetings. One night after Tim Hudson beat Miami with a complete-game, five-hit shutout, four Atlanta Braves pitchers held the Marlins to just two hits. Atlanta and Miami now are tied for second in the NL East, two games behind division leader Washington.

The Miami Marlins scored 19 runs in their previous four games prior the Atlanta series. Miami expects to snap out and avoid the sweep against Atlanta’s Mike Minor, who has struggled with home runs and could be ticketed for the minors when Kris Medlen is ready to assume a rotation spot next week. Left-hander Mark Buehrle goes for the Marlins, looking to rebound from a rough outing in his last start.

Buehrle fell hard in his last start, with only having five innings and allowing 11 hits and four earned runs in a loss at Philadelphia. The leftie has not walked a hitter in his past two starts, but has surrendered 19 hits in that same span (12 1/3 innings).
