Fantasy football is one of the most popular games on the internet. With the millions of people already involved in fantasy football, there are still many that do not know how to actually play fantasy football. It's not difficult at all to play and it makes the sport a little more interesting.

First, you will need to choose a website that has fantasy football like; yahoo, CBS, ESPN, or NFL. These are the more popular websites, but there are plenty of more options, just type in "fantasy football" in your search engine. One website I enjoy to play in is FantasyFactor. Once a website is selected and the free registration process has been fulfilled then you’re ready.

Next, you'll have to choose a league, and there are literally millions of leagues available under two basic categories, either free or pay and whether the league is open to the public or a private league. Just starting out, a free and public league is recommended. Leagues are categorized under many different parameters such as geographical areas, interests, favorite teams, cultures, Before you choose a league, the details of the draft will be displayed. Make sure you are available on the day(s) and will have the necessary time available for the entire length of the draft. Once you have selected a league and have agreed to the draft date, you will be entered into the league and your own personal web page.

You'll also have access to draft preparations, you can go to the actual draft room and you can also do mock drafts or practice drafts, so you can get a feel for how the draft works and learn the options available to you while waiting for your turn to pick. There are many useful options available during the draft and before the draft even starts. So, go in there and check out some things.

On the draft day, try to log in about 20 minutes before the draft starts. Fantasy football is based on real active NFL and NCAA players and how well or how bad they perform in their perspective games.

The "hard" part is done and you now have a fantasy football team, congratulations, now what? You will have more players than you are allowed to play at a time, per week. So, with that in mind, all you have to do is make the weekly difficult decision of whether to start 'em or sit 'em, and that's about it! Sit back and try to enjoy the games with the hopes that your players do well. Later, during the season, you may want to make some adjustments, depending on how good or bad your team is performing, by means of trading players and picking up free-agents.

You don't have to commit to spend countless hours on the computer every single day to be successful at fantasy football, but you do have to commit to spend 5 to 10 minutes per week, and that's just to change your line-up, if that's even necessary.
I have been playing the game for several years now. I've won some and I've lost even more, but that doesn't change the fact that I enjoy it each and every year!

These really are all simple tips to follow to win your fantasy league, but it's amazing how often people just don't follow them. If you want to give your team the best chance to finish on top, then apply each and every one of these. You'll be amazed at the difference.

1. Draft based on total point totals, projections, and expectations regardless of position. Don't draft based on who's the best in the real sports world. This doesn't always translate to the fantasy sports world.

2. Don't draft for a balanced team. You need to pick the categories you will focus on and let the rest work itself out. Balance=mediocre in the fantasy world.

3. Generally, in baseball draft catchers last, in football draft kickers last, in hockey draft defensemen last, and in basketball draft centers last.

4. When drafting, you typically want to fill all active player openings first before filling bench spots. The exception is if you find an EXTREME value that you've done your research on and feel is a bargain. An example is Jered Weaver this year. Yahoo had him ranked much further down in the ranks than I thought he deserved. Therefore, I drafted him ahead of other needs and after I already had my SP positions filled out. It has paid off so far.

5. Follow the latest news for whatever sport(s) you're playing. This will make a dramatic difference on keeping up to date with who's hot and who's not and so on.

6. Don't keep more DL-ridden guys on your team than you have DL spots for. The exception is if they are a top 10% fantasy player and are expected to come back with a significant portion of the season left.

7. Seek advice before making any trades. Post it to my website, to any public website, anywhere. Get others opinions first.

8. Don't give up on your team. Many times my teams have been in the bottom half of the league midway through the season only to come back and win or place in the top three when it's all said and done.

9. Constantly analyze your free agent pickups that seemingly come out of nowhere. Don't get attached to them. You need to focus on buying them low and selling them high. Yes, there are always free agent snags that will shape your team for the entire year, but more often than not, these players are ranked 458th for a reason.

10. Watch the waiver wire/free agent pool. When a starter goes down or gets benched because of poor performance, this often times opens the window for a rookie or backup to shine. Don't be afraid to pick them up right away, but of course get your research in first. This often happens with MLB closers, NFL running backs, and NHL goalies. But of course, this can happen in any sport and at any position. Always be ready.

Like a nationwide obsession, Fantasy Football has become a multi-million dollar industry with hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people doing it all over the world. It is an extremely easy thing to do and you can do it free from many websites such as espn.com and foxsports.com among many and many others. Its as easy as going to a sports website and signing up for a Fantasy Football Draft. People also do it with a group of their friends and family, or just simply associates and co-workers. By doing it online you normally don't win money, but when its done with a group of people, they usually put in a certain amount of money and the winner gets all of the money, by using their laptops, or even nowadays, their cell phones.

The points system, which Fantasy Football can be read on any Sports Website, consisting of touchdown, runs, and passes score the most points; you also score points on 25+ yard rushes or 25+ yard receptions and sacks, interceptions, forced fumbles, fumble recoveries, and even field goals and how long they are made from. The points system isn't set in stone, it just depends on which website you play fantasy football through.

The amount of people who play fantasy football worldwide is unknown because it is so many; some say around 50 million people play Fantasy Football. You can play Fantasy Sports of any catagory from football to NASCAR; it's a huge industry that's really just getting its foot in the water. They now have specific shows on many different television stations that provide you with information on who to play and who to sit each week. You can also trade and pick up players that weren't drafted during the season. For example, say the quarterback someone drafted in the first round gets injured the first week of the year and is out for year, then you can go with your second string quarterback or you can try and trade one of your key players to pick up another starting quarterback just depending on how you went about drafting your team you might have a backup quarterback who is a starter and having a good year. That theory works for any positional player from running backs to safetys.

When Drafting a Team through a website they usually have the players rated on how many points they will score you through the year based on how many points they scored the previous year or through there experts predictions on how many points they will score you. This doesn't mean if Adrian Peterson, for example, is the number one player to be drafted that you neccasarly draft him. For the most part you want to draft a running back or quarterback first simply cause they will score you the most points. A kicker is usually the last player chosen, obviously, because they will score you the least ammount of points. Fantasy Football is one of the largest growing industries on the Internet due to the weekly changes and the challenge of trying to beat people who think they know more about football then you!
